NPS Second Century Campgrounds

CHMGS’ client the National Park Service recently announced a commitment to stand up a National Campground Office and support its park units with new technical tools to enhance decision making for renovation and development of campgrounds.

The CHMGS team was instrumental in supporting this initiative. Over the course of 2021, CHMGS team members worked to pilot, test and then develop a Campground Financial Model framework for use by NPS staff. The framework builds upon CHMGS’ expertise in public sector hospitality and recreation development.

Working in close coordination with NPS staff , the CHMGS team traveled to six NPS park units to evaluate the best strategies to collect and organize agency operating and financial data, evaluate the competitive off park market and determine the best methods to institute best practices for campground development.

How does this relate to your needs?

The settings of public lands provide a unique opportunity for visitors to appreciate the outdoors. Many times the recreation and hospitality assets need to be updated to meet current visitor needs. The CHMGS team’s consulting expertise in market, financial and investment analysis combined with our knowledge of partnering tools (e.g., concession, management contracts, leases) provides public sector clients a one stop shop for creating evaluating future recreation and hospitality opportunities.

What is the vision for your agency’s second century and how can CHMGS help you achieve it?
